浅析英文歌曲在小学英语教学中的应用

学生初学英语时,他们对英语学习的积极性很大程度由兴趣决定。但随着所学知识越多,遇到的困难就会越大,如不及时加以指导,学生此时的学习兴趣便会随之减少。根据这一现象,在课堂中引用歌曲辅助教学,可以使课堂更加富有乐趣,生动活泼。激发小学生学习英语的兴趣,提高英语学习的效率。用歌曲辅助教学,符合儿童心理发展特点,也是我们创设愉快的教学环境的手段之一。近年来,在小学英语教学过程中,英语歌曲对于激励学生学习英语以及提高学生的参与能力的意义显著,越来越多的从事英语教学的实践者证实这一点。在英语课堂上,部分英语教师选用了颇有意义的英语歌曲来调动情绪或者做游戏。课堂上,学生学习英语的同时也学会了歌曲,因此,没有学生会感到紧张或者被忽略。英语歌曲还可以提高教学质量,刺激学生的兴趣,增加学生的参与程度。所以,英语歌曲俨然成为了现代英语教学的辅助工具。本文旨在对比几种英语教学模式,以期发现英语歌曲教学之重大意义

Abstract

The students learning English, their English learning enthusiasm greatly decided by interest. But with the learning more knowledge, the difficulties encountered will be greater, if not timely guidance, students at this time will be interested in learning less. According to this phenomenon, in the classroom is referenced in the songs in teaching, can make the class more interesting, be lively and vivid. Arouse students' interest in learning English, improve the efficiency of English learning. Using songs in teaching, with the characteristics of child's psychological development, we also create a pleasant teaching environment is one of the means.In recent years, the significance of English songs in encouraging students to learn English and enhancing their participation has been widely approved by more and more English teaching practitioners. In English classes, some of them have adopted abundantly momentous English songs for warm-up activities, time-fillers or games. When English songs are taught in class, children are learning while singing. Nobody feels nervous or left out. The music attracts each student. English songs also can advance teaching quality, stimulate the students' interests and increase their involvement. Thus, it could be applied in modern English teaching competently as a auxiliary tool. The thesis is aimed at comparing the English songs teaching method with other teaching methods in order to conclude the advantages and disadvantages of songs teaching method.

Introduction

Why are young learners interested in songs very much? There are some reasons as follows. English as a foreign language teaching for primary school children to learn that is very difficult. I think it can improve children’s interest in learning is to learn the language is one of the key. If teachers can make use of the distinctive English songs and children's songs to teaching, in order to bring the children a lively and entertaining fast language learning environment, it can make our teaching received better results. The interest is one kind of mood. If a thing to generate interest, which would drive him actively seek to satisfy his interest. If the children to study English interest in learning and memory, is the most active, most effective, most lasting method. While on one hand given that most children also like lively songs; on the other hand, because of the poor students of self-control, it is difficult for themto be absorbed in 40 minutes of class. So, the teachers should make students concentrate in class, and insert song teaching method, which can make the intense study relaxing, because the single form of learning English words or grammar will make students feel boring, dull, and lose interest in learning. For example the song" Days of the week.", children can use songs to learn a week everyday Inserting English songs in primary school English teaching can make students learn with pleasure so that they are interested in English learning.  

1 the basic of English song teaching method

Music can give a person the enjoyment with the United States, to make people feel comfortable. Can't live without music, in the field of English teaching through English songs and so, learning a language is one of the effective methods for English teaching. With the deepening of quality education, more and more linguists and English teachers' awareness, songs of students' language development plays an irreplaceable role[1].

In primary school English Teaching in the application of teaching method with the song teaching, students' psychological characteristics and cognitive rules. Students gain knowledge is the process from perceptual knowledge to rational knowledge process. English songs in teaching the use of the knowledge and the interest, abstract and image closely together, to provide students with more perceptual knowledge and image material. At this time, as the perceptual knowledge to rational knowledge of the bridge, the song melody can make students in a relaxed atmosphere to maintain interest in the English language.

In the concrete teaching practice, teaching and training students' listening through songs is the simplest method is to let the students listen to the lyrics, and repeat the word or sentence. Of course, also can be used to fill the lyric approach, will be an English song played a few times, allowing students to fill in the missing words. Can also be disrupted Lyric sequence, ask the students to listen to music after than who can correct discharge Lyric sequence. In addition, the song teaching enrich students' cultural background knowledge, is a good entry point. In singing English songs before, teachers can guide the students analyze and lyrics about local customs and practices and other knowledge. Finding out that music or song affects the brain should not be a surprise to any of us. Most people know that when humans are singing, the endorphin levels within our brains arc elevated, making us feel good about ourselves and our social environment.

Humans are soothed by and attracted to music. However, cognitive scientists tell us that English songs provide not only a pleasant, relaxed way in which to learn, but also an efficient way for the brain to remember what is learned.

As English is our target language, to learn it well, we should combine affective language learning and English songs together based on the above aspects.

2.2 Advantages of English Song in primary school teaching

Singing English songs is entertaining and relaxing. Learning English through songs also provides a no threatening atmosphere for students, who usually are tense when speaking English in formal classroom settings. There are some advantages of English song in English foreign language teaching[3].

2.2.1 Developing Intelligence and Potentiality

Psychologists and educationists and musicians have concerned more with the positive effect of the psychology of developing human beings' intelligence and potentiality. It is reported that the more music education the students have, the more talent they will get. English songs stimulate the interest of the students and evoke the sense of joining. Thus it improves the comprehension and use of English. English songs make the primary school teaching unnecessary persuade and inculcate again and again. Once the music begins, all the students immersed in the music, and the input of English begins at the same time with the help of the teachers' correct leading and students' comprehension of the English songs.

2.2.2 Activating Class Atmosphere Advantage

As a special English teaching method, English songs teaching is able to activate classroom atmosphere and lead to easily learning effect. English songs not only provide a welcoming, stress-free environment, but exactly the type of a natural situation where language has an immediate, practical use that language experts consider most conductive for language learning. During an English lesson, while the students are singing along quite happily, the words of the songs can lie made meaningful through visualization, movement and dramatization, as experts have suggested, and language acquisition will take place[4].

2.2.3 Improving Language Skill Advantage

It is a compelling fact that our listening is improved unconsciously, when we are enjoying English songs. Under the teachers' instruction, the students improve their listening day by day.

What is more important is that English songs can help us remind of the stressed words, weakened words, linking phonemes, incomplete exposures and assimilation. If we do so in our reading, we will pay more attention to the tone, intonation and stress.

3. Application of English songs in primary school English teaching

3.1 Choosing Suitable English Songs

English songs can provide rich and varied resources in primary school teaching classroom, however, the songs, based on lessons are not easily go well. Thus, to select suitable materials seems very important to teachers. English songs suitable for teaching English must meet the following criteria[5]:

The melodies should be simple and beautiful so as to be an excellent pedagogical device for motivating students.

The style of music should become students' taste, with the social and cultural norms of Chinese society taken into consideration.

The message of the songs should be easy to follow.

The lyric of the songs should be easy and clear that the song can be used as exercises or the students can grasp at least certain repeated words or phrases.

The content of the songs should match learners' level and specific teaching purpose.

Primary school students arc different from the middle school students and university students as their vocabulary is not so large. But children have talent for songs, and games for them are the only activities that they can treat attentively. Body language is important as well. Thus teachers should choose some simple but meaningful songs such as "I can say my ABC 'Happy New Year”, “Happy Birthday”, “Are You Betty?” Apple tree"." Twinkle, twinkle, little star", "Good morning, Sam”. "Ten little Indian boys", "Rainbow”,” Rain, rain, go away”, “Please stand upset. These songs are easily to remember and quick to learn. In all, the songs being chosen have to match the level of the students and be relevant with the textbook.

3.2 Combine English Songs with Other Activities

As primary school English teachers, we should combine fun and relaxation together in the class. To lead the children to the realm of English, the aim of teaching some simple songs is to attract the students' attention, to improve the teaching glamour and to develop their language senses. Body language is necessary as children's body languages are very rich. Through the mouth singing and body moving, children obtain rather simple words happily and pleasantly. Primary way of thinking there is flash memory technology, a number of texts in English teaching and content of the dialogue is not easy to remember and master, teachers should find ways to make teaching an intuitive, interesting. That is the most direct performance-based. Third, we must use new quaint riddles, stories, and induce their interests, such as to enable students to close the book, observe the changes in my mouth (not pronounced), is that the judge I said a word, said first side of the winner .Fourth, to enable students to participate in the design performance, so that every student with reading or music performances by the process of adding to the knowledge of English school, so very good, interesting strengthen students' English.

3.3 Practice English songs through games

Add the proper teaching in the English game will help students interested in, in line with "Learn" the principle of the game teaching method emphasizes the subjectivity of students, requiring students to participate, rather than teacher monologue, reflecting the role of teacher-led and student body play the game in line with teaching students the physiological and psychological characteristics. students love performing lively little shy, willing to accept new and interesting things, teachers, teaching can directly affect students' interest in learning. use games no intention to pay attention to the characteristics will help students develop the right method of learning and good study habits are conducive to do anything easy, will help reduce the burden of students, meet the requirements of quality education. embodies one of the basic concept of curriculum standards: surface to all students, focusing on quality education.We also can use the familiar melody to practice new sentence structures. For example: Use the melody of the song 'London bridge is falling down" to practice the sentences like "Amy's taller than Ling ling": Use the melody of the song "Two tigers" to practice the sentences likes "Can you run fast ". The exercises like that will make pupils relax and amuse. Teachers may revise the songs according to the teaching aims[7].


Conclusion

The twenty-first Century is a social life and information-based economy, the new era of globalization. English in the social life and international exchanges become indispensable tools. In the primary stage, teach students to sing English songs, the teaching content, to help students remember words to complete the teaching played a catalytic role. Music gives wisdom, good music played well on the nervous system stimulation. Teaching English songs easy and feasible, a significant effect, can effectively stimulate the enthusiasm of students learning English, popular among students. Songs in English teaching in line with the student's image of the memory and emotional characteristics of memory relatively stable, easy to stimulate students' emotions and imagination, the unconscious memory state can receive better teaching results.

One of the greatest enemies of successful teaching is students' boredom. Starting from the importance of English songs, advantages of English songs, and the application of English songs in primary school teaching, we can see that the employment of English songs in primary school teaching is indeed a very good way as a supplementary tool. It can attract students' attention and involvement; it develops students' intelligence and potentiality: it activates class atmosphere: it is a technique for managing large classes; it invokes a sense of community. Undoubtedly, it must be on the condition that the teacher is good at selecting songs for the students, being proficiently at the ways of teaching along with the students' cooperation and involvement that the high efficiency can be achieved
